The Perfect Fireplace Christmas Traditions and Some New Ones
When you were growing up, you may have had some great Christmas memories and many of them if you think about it were around the fireplace. We all have them. But, there are new ones you can try this holiday season. They might just become traditions that your children will cherish most when they have children of their own.
Having hot cocoa by the fireplace isn’t merely a Christmas tradition. It’s an entire winter season tradition. But, don’t let it fade into just a mere memory. Make sure you have the hot cocoa on hand and be ready to enjoy some Christmas morning.
Telling or reading stories by the fireplace is a tradition in some families. But, there are many people who miss out on this wonderful tradition. Video games and DVDs have taken over the story reading. And it pretty much seems obsolete to hear someone tell a story anymore. Bring it back.
The night before Christmas and just before bed time, break out the hot cocoa and tell some stories. Tell some stories about Christmases that you have enjoyed in the past or ones that were particularly funny. Break out the books and read about Santa, the Reindeer or Jack Frost. Tell the story of Saint Nick and remind people about the real reason you celebrate Christmas, which is up to you no matter what it is that you believe. Just make sure you pass that down to the younger generations in your family so that they can do the same when they have children of their own.
Of course, stockings are a famous tradition. But, I have come across some interesting variations. Some families try to guess what’s in their stockings. You get to hold it, look it over and shake your gifts. Then, take a guess. It’s fun. Being right is even more fun.
Another great idea is to have the family make their stockings every year. Pick a design. Put your names on them. Hang them up and wait for Christmas. That can really become a wonderful tradition that you can enjoy and pass on to your young ones.
When it comes to Christmas, the fireplace is on nearly half the cards. It’s just as much a part of the holiday as trees and wreaths. With such a beautiful backdrop, it’s an awesome gift to give your friends and extended family members a wonderful card with your family in front of your fireplace. It’s a part of my family. Make it a part of yours!
